What makes someone a high performer?
Since I left the sports world and entered the corporate sphere, this term has always surrounded the cultures I have been around. Mostly because I started in sales, and as a top performer leading others, we tried to foster this term “high-performer” with everything we did. I learned that it is not about the time you wake up, the rituals you do or don’t do, and the number of hours you put into anything (although this matters). It is a set of principles, I think that puts you into this category despite what you do and what you earn.
The Twitter “guy” guru selling you a course most likely isn’t who they say they are. The phenomenon of people creating courses ever since COVID-19 is deafening. Everyone will have their version of what makes someone a high performer, but here is mine;
- Consistent
- Integral (Do what & when you say)
- Resilient
- Sacrificial
- Persistent
It is not that deep, nor is it that complex. However, I will say that it is not easy to be all of the above. I will explain below.
Consistent
Time and time again consistency separates individuals. Do you do what you have said out to do and stick to it?
Integral
Do you do what you say and do you mean what you say? That is the basis of being integral with your actions and words.
Resilient
Many don’t succeed on the first try of anything. So do you keep going or do you take steps backwards?
Sacrificial
You can’t have your cake and eat it too. One of the oldest sayings in the books right? But is true when it comes down to making sacrifices.
Persistent
All of the above. That is what it takes. Over and over and over again.
